Please note that we do not currently review self-published books.
If you're a publicist and you've got a title that would interest us, we'd love to hear from you! You'll find contact details here.
We're most interested in new fiction and have a surprisingly long lead time; to ensure timely coverage, the earlier we get our hands on something, the better!
What we cover
You can get a general idea of what we cover from a quick look at the blog. Broadly speaking, though, these things are likely to get covered:
- literary fiction
- novellas
- author biographies
- some genre stuff if it has strong writing and crossover appeal
- newly rediscovered classics
- literary magazines / curiosities / one-offs
- travel narratives
However, we don't really cover these:
- romance
- fiction over about 500 pages
- comics / graphic novels
- self-published books
- chick-lit
Who reads The Fiction Desk
The majority of our readers are split fairly evenly between the UK and the USA, followed by Canada, Australia, and Italy (where we're based). For editorial purposes, we're ostensibly UK-based, but it's an international market, and we like to cover US-only titles when we get the chance.
Since November 2009, we also produce a monthly newsletter that goes out to readers across the world. It features coverage of additional titles, along with a monthly giveaway. You can sign up to receive this here.
