You can submit stories to us in two ways: through our general submissions system, which is always open, or through one of our regular writing competitions. Read about both options below.
Before submitting, you may find it useful to look at our manuscript formatting tips. It's also worth reading one of our anthologies, to give you an idea of the kind of stories we publish. Anthologies are available in both paperback and ebook editions. More information on our anthologies.
General Short Story Submissions
We're always looking for new short stories for the Fiction Desk anthologies, and most of the stories we publish are unsolicited submissions.
We publish stories in a range of lengths from 1,000 to 20,000 words, and submissions should be made through our online form. For more information, please read the guidelines below.
- Take a look at one of our anthologies to see whether we would be a good fit for your work.
- Read our short story submission guidelines.
- Send us your story through our short story submission form.
We run regular short story writing competitions, with prizes including cash and publication in our anthologies. These competitions introduce a little variety to our anthologies, and often cover genres and types of story we don't usually publish.
