Submissions Information
We're always looking for new short stories for the Fiction Desk anthologies, and we run three seasonal submission calls a year.
We're open now for winter submissions.
Here’s what’s happening at The Fiction Desk this winter:
- Our general submission call is open now. The general call is for stories on any of the themes and genres featured in Fiction Desk anthologies. (Grab yourself a copy of the latest volume, Inside Voices, if you aren’t sure what that means.)
- We also read submissions for our partner publishers Uncertain Stories. Uncertain Stories publishes fiction set more-or-less here, more-or-less now, with a supernatural or speculative edge. The first Uncertain Stories anthology is out now, and features illustrations throughout by Lucy Scott (who also drew the winter landscape above). You’ll definitely want to read it: Get yourself a copy of Broken Ground, and then see the Uncertain Stories submission call here.
- Finally, we're running our popular annual ghost story call. We've changed the rules a little this year, tightening up the definition of a ghost. Find out more about that here.
(Please don’t worry if you aren’t sure which of the above calls best suits your work. We read submissions with all open calls in mind.)
The deadline for winter submissions, including all of the above calls, is Friday 30th January.
To submit:
- Take a look at one of our anthologies to see whether we would be a good fit for your work.
- Read our short story submission guidelines.
- Send us your story through our short story submission form.
